Outlooks
Ruth Hanson’s “Outlook” for Fall
“Outlooks”, an exhibit by visual artist, Ruth Hanson of Vining, is featured in the Evansville Art Center Gallery through November 25.
Having grown up on a small Minnesota dairy farm, Ruth is influenced by nature and farm life. Since earning a degree in Art Education from MSU Moorhead, she has studied and taught many different forms and techniques of Art.
Diversity and Mystery of Art
Ruth works in Oil Pastel and appreciates the richness of color it gives on suede board. She also works with Watercolor and Gouache on illustration board, and appreciates the detail she can achieve with it. Recently, she most enjoys working in Watercolor Batik on rice paper. This process lends itself to impressionism in its use of light and color to give a general feeling of a scene rather than detail. The wax intensifies the color and adds a sparkling, whimsical effect to landscapes, florals, and lately, portraits. Ruth says she doesn’t really know how a piece is going to turn out until she irons out the wax and sees what she has accomplished. Ruth has also had an interest in Calligraphy for most of my her life, and has found that it works well when using her paintings in greeting cards.
To Ruth, Art is an Adventure!
In addition to attending and teaching workshops in these various art forms, Ruth is also a member of the Alex Art Guild in Alexandria as well as a displaying artist and member of Art of the Lakes Gallery in Battle Lake, Minnesota. Currently living on a farm south of Vining, MN, she says she and her husband, Nate are “blessed with three wildly creative adult children.”
EAC will be hosting an Artist Reception for Ruth on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. The public is invited to attend, meet the artist and view her wonderfully creative and compelling work. Refreshments will be served.
