Jazz pianist Jay Johnson will be performing at the First Friday Concert, November 5th at the Evansville Art Center.
Jay has attended jazz workshops and courses, including Phil Mattson’s Vocal Jazz workshop and Indianhead Arts Jazz summer workshop and continued practicing his skills. As a singer with the Center Singers in Fergus Falls in the 1990’s, he was inspired to “learn to play jazz piano if it kills me.” We are so glad it did not!
Jay was a founding member of Finestra, a jazz trio out of Elbow Lake with a select repertoire of jazz and jazz interpretations of pop tunes. Jay says he enjoys playing ensemble jazz because it’s fun and less work being part of an ensemble. However, during the isolation of COVID, he worked on an assortment of solo pieces, which he will be performing for our enjoyment at this concert.
Door open at 6:30 p.m. This is a free concert. Donations welcomed. Bring a treat to share, beverages provided. Vaccinations or masks preferred.
