Jess Schmidt, Abstract Artist
Primarily self-taught
Jess Schmidt is an abstract artist. She was born in Fergus Falls, MN and has lived in the region for much of her life. Having a strong interest in art since grade school, Jess is primarily a self-taught artist.
Her current process involves using black primed canvas, a layer of white acrylic line-work using fine script brushes, and covering the piece with fluorescent aerosol(s). In her most recent paintings, She has increased layers of depth in her work, by adding additional layers of acrylic line-work on top.
Jess’s experience includes live performance painting, artist vending at two MN-based festivals, sharing an artist pop-up with fellow local artist Nancy Valentine and her Etsy shop where she sells artwork and prints as well as clothing and home goods created utilizing her body of artwork.
Jess was one of five artists featured in the Emerging Artists Exhibition at Lake Region Art Council; located in Fergus Falls, MN. This exhibition is on a nominated basis and was Jess’s gallery debut. She displayed two pieces in the Invitational show at the MSTATE Fergus Falls, MN Campus in May of 2022 and will be live painting throughout the state for the Summer of 2022.
