A Perfect July 4th Weekend at City Park
‘First Friday Concert’ with Josie Nelson!
We were absolutely thrilled when Governor Walz’s guidelines allowed for outdoor events on the condition that there were fewer than 250 individuals in one place.
This meant that we could provide an event as part of Evansville’s July 4th weekend by hosting ‘First Friday’ at City Park! While July 3rd ended up being a fairly hot day reaching 90 degrees, shade provided by trees at the shelter and a soft breeze helped to bring the temperature down by a good 10 degrees. Altogether, the weather was near perfect for an outdoor concert that was a resounding success—especially when a particularly loud firecracker exploded in the area!
Blast from the Past
The headliner for our ‘First Friday’ show was the one and only, Josie Nelson! An alumni of performing at our Open Mic when she was beginning to learn guitar and write her own songs, Josie has had quite the journey with her music. When she first performed at the Polk County Fair in Fertile, MN at age 9, to her own surprise—she won! From there, she went on to perform at the State Fair, placing to move on to the Grandstand, she first walked away with a second place finish. Following that, she went on to perform at the Grandstand another three years; her third time winning her the coveted first place.
Since then, she has gone on to further develop her musical talents and has racked up a whopping 40,000+ followers on her YouTube account alone. Currently a junior in college studying pre-med, it’s always a treat to see Josie perform. We are grateful to her for continuing to share her talent, not only with us, but with the world.
What’s Coming Up?
As the end of Summer approaches, there are a few upcoming events in August that we are excited to talk about. Next month’s ‘First Friday’ performance will take place on August 7 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. It will feature ‘Blue Wolf Duo,’ and you can find this event and add it to your calendar by visiting our events page.
