A Victorian Christmas Tale

Candlelight, Tea and Dickens

Over 23 years ago, I was invited to go with a friend to a small tearoom in Orlando, Florida to enjoy a theatrical presentation called Dickens by Candlelight.  To say that I walked out of there in awe would be an understatement.  It absolutely made my Christmas season become even more magical than it had ever been.  Why?  Because the story of Scrooge, which had long been a favorite of mine, became so meaningful after immersing myself in it during this production.  Dickens by Candlelight is a new twist on a holiday tale as a three-person, interactive show providing theater-goers with a delightfully unique opportunity to experience A Christmas Carol the way it was intended to be told: as a Ghost Story. I vowed then and there I would do everything possible to someday bring this team to my home area so those I loved could also enjoy the magic.

A Magical Christmas with Dickens

I attended the Dickens by Candlelight production each year while I lived in Orlando, as it became a holiday tradition.  When I moved back to Minnesota and heard they were celebrating the 20th anniversary, I flew to Florida to enjoy it once more.  It was at that time that we began to discuss bringing them to Minnesota.  Patience and perseverance became the theme as we waited for a grant from Lake Region Arts Council to come through and then COVID struck and shut us down.

Dickens comes to Evansville!

So, here we are and December 2021 is nearing.  The promotional materials are going out and I am thrilled to be project director with the Evansville Arts Coalition to bring this special presentation of Dickens by Candlelight to Evansville, Minnesota!  As of November 1, tickets open up to the public for the show on Sunday, December 5 at 2:00 pm. at Railroad & Second Event Center.  Tickets may be purchased HERE or at the Evansville Art Center during gallery hours of 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on November 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 or 20.

If I could sit with each person reading this blog, I'd tell you if you have any enjoyment of A Christmas Carol or want a way to make your holiday season more special, don't miss this presentation.  It will touch your heart and be a memory you will cherish sharing with loved ones and community for years to come!
