Traditional, Classic Country Music
There’ll be dancing in the street!
The Honky-Tonk Stardust Cowboys, with Maggie LaFond, will perform for a street concert in front of the Evansville Art Center on Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
With their name taken from the 1971 Lefty Frizzell song, the Honky-Tonk Stardust Cowboys do indeed “play the country tunes of bygone days”. The band is one of the very few in central Minnesota performing traditional country music in the spirit and sound of the original recordings. Their song list includes classic hits from artists such as Martina McBride, Rosanne Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Tanya Tucker, Loretta Lynn, Dwight Yoakam and many more as well as some early rock and roll songs
The Honky-Tonk Stardust Cowboys are one of Minnesota’s top classic country bands and include some of the area’s best musicians.
Maggie LaFond is one of two lead singers in a unique “musical job sharing arrangement.” She grew up on a hobby farm in West Central Minnesota. From the time she was born, musicians have surrounded her. At age 5, she was performing on occasion with her mother, Patty Kakac, and not long after that she was singing and recording songs and harmony tracks with The Granary Girls. By age 14, she had landed a role on the Emmy Nominated CBS Primetime series “Kid Nation” followed by her first demo CD of original songs recorded at Pachyderm Studios. As an adult, she continues to perform as a singer songwriter.
You will find Greg Dopp on one guitar. Greg grew up working nightclubs and shows, playing country as well as 50’s and ‘60’s rock and roll. He has performed with national acts in the Midwest, California and Canada, including Tommy Cash, Hank Williams III, Tom T. Hall and many others.
Tony Ray can be found behind the drum kit keeping the beat. He has been a member of many great Minnesota bands throughout the years, including Cassie and the Bobs. Tony books and promotes live music through his company Good Clean Fun Productions.
Bass player Kimber Wolfe holds the low end down for the band. She got her start in country music with the Elkay Band and has since played in a number of rock and blues bands such as Southern Uprising and The Shackshakers.
Guitarist Mike Gusaas is an exciting addition to the band. With his talent, he brings a new dimension to the Cowboys’ sound. Some of the great North Dakota bands Mike has played in include Dakota Dirt, Boomtown and The Sheyenne River Band.
For a special treat, Annie O’Flynn can often be found sitting in with the band on accordion.
The Honky-Tonk Stardust Cowboys appeal to young and old crowds alike. They fill venues from the Dakotas to Wisconsin with their great brand of “real” country music.
The Evansville Arts Coalition invites you to attend this street concert on Saturday, August 27th. This concert is being presented in memory of one of The Honky-Tonk Stardust Cowboys’ greatest fans, David Berry.
There is no charge for this street concert. Grab a lawn chair or blanket to sit on when you’re not dancing and be sure to invite your friends! Water will be available.
The Evansville Art Center is located at 111 Main Street, Evansville, Minnesota. In the event of rain, the concert will be held at Railroad & 2nd Event Center in Evansville.
